This is the best and most well preserved complex, together with those located in Plaza Fernán Pérez de Andrade, of the "Mariñas housing" typology typical of the As Mariñas region and whose roots take us back to the Middle Ages. Initially they were located outside the walled enclosure, in the so-called Barrio Campo (according to the name on the 1616 Betanzos map). They were popular dwellings, probably for peasants who used the balconies as a place to dry the grain. They were not usually more than two storeys high and the ground floor of the house was made of stone, normally with a porch that would provide protection from the weather. This complex and the adjacent ones on Rúa da Cañota form perhaps the best example of popular architecture in Betanzos.

Did you know that on Rúa de San Francisco, just opposite the church, there is the so-called "Casa de los 3 Balcones", of the same type but with the exception that it has three floors, something atypical in similar constructions.

The name of Fonte de Unta is a derivation of Unctia, the old name of the castro on which the medieval Betanzos stands. This place has served as an inspiration for numerous artists, most notably the Impressionist painter Francisco Llorens who painted several of his works in this place.
