They occupy the place of the old cloister and convent of San Francisco, which disappeared after the Disentailment of 1836. It was built thanks to a testamentary legacy left by Jesús García Naveira (who died in 1912 in Argentina) for the construction of a school. The amount donated was 50,000 pesetas at the time. The project was commissioned to Rafael Gónzalez Villar who built a building with historicist influences such as the elements typical of Hispanic-Muslim architecture but taking into account the function of the building above all in the use of natural light.

Did you know that we owe another school in Betanzos to the García Naveira brothers? It is the building that, together with the old people's home, made up the García Hermanos Charity Teaching Trust. In this place the students had all kinds of materials and means at their disposal. Even a small museum.

The façade concentrates the aesthetic importance with the horseshoe arches and that welcoming portico in the style of the agoras. In addition to being the distributor of the students. The gender segregation signs (common at the time) are striking, and today this building houses the municipal nursery school, which has had the same function for over 100 years.
