The church of San Francisco is one of the best examples of Gothic art in Galicia. It has suffered modifications over time, for example, the original convent is not preserved being replaced by the building of 1919. The main doorway with the scene of the Epiphany in which San Francisco also appears is particularly noteworthy. In all probability the portraits of the Andrade family appear at the base of the columns and also indicate guild symbols. Inside, 21 medieval tombs from the 14th and 15th centuries have been preserved, most of them belonging to the Andrade family, but also to other noble families such as the Vilousaz, Pardo, Figueroa or Lemos. We should also mention the tomb of the possible doctor (of the Hebrew religion) of Fernán Pérez de Andrade.

Did you know that in the apse of San Francisco, where we can see a representation of the Final Judgement, until 1936 there was a Baroque altarpiece made by the master Ferreiro?

The tomb of Andrade is undoubtedly the most important Gothic funeral monument in Galicia. Of great dimensions and made of granite, Andrade's idea was to engrave his image in the memory of the city's inhabitants in the way that monarchs and high nobility did. The hunting scenes that decorate it, as well as the sides of the apse where it was originally located, tell us that hunting was conceived as a training exercise for the nobility as a metaphor for the fight against evil and the search for eternal life.
