Located in the same square as the church of San Francisco, it stands out for its doorway, which still shows a Romanesque style, although it is Gothic. Even so, the iconographic programme of the Annunciation, Epiphany and Andrade symbolism is repeated, such as the omnipresent wild boar, a family reference. Inside, the tombs of different members of the Betanceira society, such as those of Alonso de Carvallido and his wife Clara Sanches, today kept in the Museo das Mariñas, should be highlighted. Alonso de Carvallido was one of the leaders of the Irish people and his tomb is unique. In the church of Santa Maria the guilds of the city had their chapels, hence the presence of tombs of merchants, traders and others.

It is worth mentioning one of the few examples of an agricultural calendar in the whole of the peninsula that appears sculpted on one of the capitals of a side chapel. It represents a parade of the 12 months of the year carrying out different agricultural tasks, something very appropriate in the church that the local farmers attended.
